It was Earth day over the weekend. If you were not aware you must have been buried under some garbage or maybe the lack of an ozone layer allowed the sun to fry your brain. As a matter of fact it was unusually warm in the city with highs around 25C. Normal highs are 12C. We invited some friends over on Saturday to help us clean up some park areas around our house and although you don't see much as you drive through the neighbourhood when you walk around there is stuff everywhere. Saturday we found lots of stuff but on Sunday we came across even more. There was a bit of everything. Bottles, cans, coffee cups, a single shoe (I've always wanted to write about the single shoe and how it came to be on it's own. Maybe in a future post) . Most annoying were the advertising signs. You can't come into a new neighbourhood without seeing signs for pot lights, basement reno, critter removal, landscaping, feng shui... The majority of them have a little wire frame and a plastic sign. I assume they are very cheap to produce as nobody comes back to pick them up and put them in a new neighbourhood. The politicians are some of the worst offenders. We should have taken them to their campain headquarters and dumped them on the front door.
We then went back home and had Pizza and wings for lunch making sure to recycle the Pizza box and pop cans we used.
Steven Brian and Trevor with just a few of the bags we filled.
